Made from 50 year-old vines, the flinty complexity of this Muller Thurgau is truly stunning. Trentino is a bit warmer for a Northern Italy mountain climate, and days are quite sunny; but when night sets, the super cool breezes sink down from the Alps, locking in a crispness and acidity so crucial to this varietal. Ruggero de Tarczal, one of the long-time gentlemen winemakers of his zone, is royalty in Trentino circles, one of the last stand-outs against co-op wines that now dominate 95% of the landscape there. To taste his wines is to begin
to understand what is possible in Trentino.
