Casa Contini
Casa Vinicola Botter S.p.a. began in 1928, founded by Carlo Botter in Fossalta di Piave, 30 kilometres northeast of Venice. Today it is managed by the family’s third generation.
1928. The company is active in the Veneto region business sector, selling wine locally in casks and demijohns to restaurants and small retailers
1958. The entry of the second family generation (Carlo Botter’s sons Arnaldo, Enzo, and Giovanni). Wine is now sold in bottles, attention turns to foreign markets for increased sales; as the firm expands, it participates in the first wine-industry trade shows and initiates relationships with foreign importers. Belgium, Germany, and Switzerland are the first Botter export markets. Although Italy remains the major market, sales now go through distributors rather than to retailers.
1970. The company converts from S.a.s. (limited partnership) to S.p.a. (corporation), but with the capital still held by the family. The change in legal structure leads to changes in targeted customers as well: the Italian market is gradually eliminated, save for the large national distributors, and the foreign market now becomes paramount.
1980. Casa Vinicola Botter provides 80% of its production to 25 countries on various continents.
The company now sells not only to importers but also directly to large foreign distributors, who require their suppliers to make available a broad product range. The Botter portfolio expands to include wines produced in Piedmont, Tuscany, Latium, the Marches, and in particular in Puglia. Veneto region wines are still produced, some on the 100-hectare family estate in Motta di Livenza, on the Veneto-Friuli border.
1982. The company continues to grow, now diversifying its product lineup. In addition to wine, it now produces and markets fruit juices. Although unknown in Italy, this market is large in Germany, Holland, Belgium, and France, where bulk juice is sold to large juice and drink bottling companies.
1998. Well established now in foreign markets, the company decides to recover share in the domestic market, focusing on the hotel, restaurant, and catering sector; a director of sales is appointed, and a sales network established. The family wine estate, Là di Motte, is re-structured: vineyards are removed and new ones planted, a new production facility and barrel cellar are built, and the old farm residence is renovated and adapted. The need for improved communication is now felt, so a completely redesigned packaging conveys the new dynamic company image.
2000. A new initiative is launched: building on decades-long relationships with quality producers in southern Italy, a line of wines from the south is developed for sale to the entire domestic market. Botter signs a special agreement with a Puglia winery, under which Botter winemakers and consultants collaborate in the vineyard, production, and bottling of a new line, Koiné.
2009. The company currently works with producers in Puglia, Molise, Abruzzo, and in Sicily, collaborating with them through the entire production process. With regard to exports, 98% of production and releases goes to 40 countries abroad; the clientele has grown from the main European markets, including those in Eastern Europe, to the USA, Canada, and Asia.
