Mourvèdre / Monastrell
Mourvedre is the second most important black grape variety after Garnacha, and was once the most important vine in Provence. Wine produced from the grape tends to be high in alcohol and tannins. It is the principal grape variety in Alicante, Almansa, Jumilla, Valencia and Yecla and is also known as Roussillon (California) and Esparte (Australia).
